Howard County police are investigating an accident in Ellicott City involving a pickup truck and a school bus that sent four children and two adults to the hospital for observation Monday afternoon.

About 1:30 p.m., a 1987 International bus heading east on Route 40 made a left turn onto northbound Bethany Lane and into a 1993 Dodge truck heading west on Route 40, police spokesman Sgt. Steve Keller said.

Helen Williams, 35, a driver for Shaw Bus Co. in Catonsville, and four student passengers, ages 6 to 14, from the Trinity School in Ellicott City were driven by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital for observation.

The truck's driver, Charles Marshall Shaver, 59, of Shamblee, Ga., also was taken to the hospital.

Sergeant Keller said no one was seriously injured and all were released.

Police said both drivers claimed they were driving through green light signals. The traffic investigation is continuing, Sergeant Keller said.
