Baltimore lawyer Susan M. Fila, who was arrested in April after the stabbing of her partner, was indicted yesterday on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation to murder and attempted murder, a prosecutor said.

Ms. Fila, 42, also was indicted on charges of stealing $61,767 from her partner, Charles Lamasa, and of stealing $9,100 from a former client, said Mark Cohen, an assistant state's attorney.

The conspiracy and solicitation to murder charges stem from an April 14 incident in which Mr. Lamasa was stabbed repeatedly -- allegedly by a woman hired by Ms. Fila to kill him. He survived the attack.

Tamme Lynn Newton, 35, the woman allegedly hired by Ms. Fila, was indicted yesterday on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder, Mr. Cohen said. Both women also were indicted on weapon charges.

If convicted, the women could be sentenced to life in prison, said Mr. Cohen, who added that they are being held in the Baltimore City Detention Center. They are to be arraigned July 12.
