Derek "Lek" Leckenby, 48, lead guitarist of the rock band Herman's Hermits, has died in his hometown of Manchester, England, of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He had been battling the disease for three years and died Saturday, according to a news dTC release issued by the group's manager. He continued to perform with the group until late May, when he was admitted to a hospital. He is survived by a wife, Leonie, and two daughters, Kara and Abigail. The band has sold more than 50 million records since it was formed in 1964.

Roy M. Kottman, 77, former dean of the Ohio State University College of Agriculture 1960 to 1982, died Saturday of cancer in Columbus, Ohio.
