John Carroll (13-6) finished its baseball season with a flourish last weekend, sweeping past three teams to win the B Division of the Private Schools baseball tournament.
Junior Nick Jenkins was named the tournament's most valuable player.
In succession, the Patriots defeated Boys' Latin in Bel Air, 17-1; Cardinal Gibbons, 12-3, in the semifinal at McCurdy Field in Frederick, and St. James of Hagerstown, 10-0, at Shipley Field on the University of Maryland campus in College Park.
Jenkins (5-3, 2.68), a right-hander, received credit for the wins over Boys' Latin (four innings, one hit, six strikeouts) and St. James (five innings, no hits, six strikeouts), and for the three games, he batted 5-for-8 with seven RBIs.
