25 Years Ago (Week of May 25-31, 1969):

* The Howard County Council adopted a general budget of $15,176,000 for the upcoming fiscal year, which would be the county's first full year under charter government. In support of the new budget, the property tax rate was set at $2.75 (up from $2.60) and the income surtax was increased from 25 percent to 45 percent.

* A site was selected for the new Clarksville Post Office. The chosen site was located on Route 108, 200 feet northeast of new Route 32.

50 Years Ago (Week of May 28-June 3, 1944):

* Ellicott City firefighters responded to their first call since April 18, to extinguish a burning refrigerator at a Fel's Lane residence.

* Technician Fourth Grade Howard D. Young, 24, was reported (( wounded in action in the Mediterranean. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Young of Elkridge.
