BALKAN UPDATE

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The U.N. postponed Geneva peace talks set for yesterday after Bosnian Serbs failed to keep a pledge to withdraw troops from a 1.9-mile exclusion zone around the Muslim enclave of GORAZDE.

Serbs came near to being targeted by NATO planes after the U.N. command approved a request by peacekeeping troops for close air support when the Serbs shelled a British base at BUGOJNO. But the shelling stopped before the air strikes could take place.

A handful of radical Islamic paramilitary forces, probably from Iran and possibly from other Muslim countries, have moved into Bosnia to align themselves with the Muslim-led government, Clinton administration officials said.
