A gunman robbed the Papa John's Pizza in the 3400 block of Fort Meade Road in Laurel Tuesday night and made off with an undisclosed amount of money, county police said.

The gunman entered the store about 11:30 p.m. and pointed a pistol at two employees at the rear of the store, police said. The workers told police the robber may have used a path between the Tall Oaks Apartment complex and the 7-Eleven training center on Old Annapolis Road.

The employees gave the robber all the money collected from pizza deliveries that evening. One of the men also gave the bandit some of his personal cash, police said. The gunman fled east on Old Annapolis Road toward Style Ave. A police officer and dog who arrived at the restaurant about two minutes later were unable to find the suspect, police said.

Dead deer on doorstep, screwdriver in its chest

A Crofton woman found a dead deer on her doorstep Wednesday morning with a screwdriver stuck in its chest, county police said.

Melisse Sheets, 21, of the 2000 block of Lake Grove Lane found the animal about 7:30 a.m., police said. She told officers she heard some noises outside her townhouse around 4 a.m., police said.

Ms. Sheets believes that a man she reported for driving a car with stolen tags may be responsible for the incident, police said. She found a wallet a couple of feet away from the deer that contained a driver's license of a man who is a friend of that suspect, police said.

After he was arrested, the suspect threatened to get even with Ms. Sheets for reporting him, police said. Ms. Sheets told police that someone had put sugar into the gasoline tank of her mother's car before the deer incident.
