* Taneytown: Firefighters from the Taneytown station responded to calls during a brief but severe rainstorm Thursday when lightning that accompanied the storm apparently struck electric wires in two locations. The first call was received at 3:46 p.m. for wires on fire at 5 York St. A separate fire was discovered at 3:54 p.m. when wires at 36 York St. ignited. Firefighters were out for 23 minutes on both calls.

Taneytown also responded to a gas leak in a house in the first block of E. Baltimore St. at 3:17 p.m. Thursday. Units were out for 30 minutes.
