* Bethany Lane area residents voiced near-unanimous opposition to the proposed development of a planned community at Turf Valley. An organization known as Turf Valley Associates was requesting that 1,120 acres be rezoned to allow this development.

50 Years Ago (Week of May 21-27, 1944):

dTC * The Animal Welfare Society of Howard County was formed at a meeting at the courthouse in Ellicott City.

* The West Friendship Homemakers Club met at the home of Mrs. Carl Sheets. Mildred Flanagan, county home demonstration agent, gave demonstrations on making furniture over, color blending and new ways for using old pictures and frames.
