FLYING THE FLAG

THE BALTIMORE SUN

WASHINGTON -- Flags put out over the Memorial Day weekend in honor of the nation's war dead may be flown at full-staff because the official period of mourning for former President Richard M. Nixon has elapsed, according to the White House military office.

The official mourning period for a president is 30 days, which for Mr. Nixon ended at sundown Sunday, despite the fact that many have continued to fly their American flags at half-staff.
