Last year, Jamie Moyer was the league's most unwanted guest. This year, he can't win on the road and definitely not in May.

Moyer, a left-hander, hasn't won since April 19 and has yet to get a victory on the road, where he thrived in his comeback campaign last year.

Moyer attempts to stop a 17-game losing streak in May today at 2:05 p.m. in the final game of a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at County Stadium.

The Orioles are looking for their first series sweep since winning three over Toronto May 9-11, which was also the last series they won.

Moyer recorded nine of his 12 wins last year on the road and accounted for 24 percent of the Orioles' away victories. He had the American League's lowest road earned-run average (2.44) and was second only to the Reds' Jose Rijo in the majors.

In his past five starts, Moyer is winless, giving up 39 hits in 27 1/3 innings. He has lost twice in that stretch, both on the road.

In his past three starts on the road, Moyer has pitched into the seventh twice, but has a 7.13 ERA.

Compared with the rest of the Orioles starters, Moyer has the lowest average innings per start (6.0) and the most home runs allowed (10).

Moyer is actually accustomed to struggling at this time of the season. He is 4-19 lifetime in May, and has not won in May in five years. In the past two seasons, Moyer has given up 56 hits and 27 runs in 36 innings in May.

Moyer will try to reverse that luck against Milwaukee, which has averaged just more than three runs during its club-record 13-game losing streak. Moyer will also try to find a solution for giving up home runs to the Brewers, who have 33 in 44 games.

Carrying a career 3-3 record against the Brewers, Moyer was inconsistent in three appearances vs. Milwaukee last year. He won one of two decisions against the team, but the Brewers hit him for seven runs and 16 hits in 14 innings.

Mike Ignasiak, starting for the Brewers, has not faced an Orioles batter more than three times.
