A city police officer shot a gunman outside a northeast Baltimore restaurant early today after an employee of the restaurant was shot, city homicide detectives said.
Details remained sketchy in the shooting at Marco's restaurant, 2027 Broadway, which occurred at 2:11 a.m. today. Police did not disclose the name of the officer nor the identities of the two victims.
The incident began when an employee was shot outside of the restaurant, police said. An off-duty officer who was at the scene then fired a number of shots at the suspect, hitting him at least five times. After being shot, police said, the suspect jumped over a fence and ran a short distance before collapsing.
Detectives said the gunman was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The condition of the restaurant employee was not known.
