25 Years Ago (Week of May 11-17, 1969):

* Ardis Fowler of Ellicott City won the Miss Maryland Pageant, making her eligible to compete in the Miss USA Pageant to be held in Miami, Fla.

* It was announced this week that the Strategic Air Command's largest ICBM Titan II Missile would be on display at Normandy Shopping Center at Ellicott City.

50 Years Ago (Week of May 14-20, 1944):

* The third annual Howard County Hunter Show was held at Blarney, the Regan McKenney farm near Woodbine. The event included 21 classes of competition for ponies and hunters.

* A canning school was held at Ellicott City High School. More than 30 women attended. Topics included equipment, dehydration, salting and brining, and freezing and canning.
