LOS ANGELES -- Malcolm I. Glazer, president of First Allied Corp. of Boynton Beach, Fla., has been trying to purchase the San Diego Padres from Tom Werner.

Glazer, 66, owns TV stations, real estate and stocks. He was recently an unsuccessful bidder for an NFL expansion franchise in Baltimore.

Sources say a Padres sale would be approved only if the team remains in San Diego and that no deal has been completed between Werner and Glazer.
