* Bishop Noah Moore Jr., 92, a retired executive of the United Methodist Church, died of cancer May 14. The Atlantic City, N.J., resident graduated from Morgan State College and in 1931 received a master of divinity degree from Drew Theological Seminary. After his ordination in 1932, the native of Newark, N.J., served in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He became a bishop in 1960, serving in New Orleans, Houston and Lincoln, Neb., before he retired in 1972.

* Jacques Ellul, 82, one of France's foremost Protestant theologians, died Thursday in Paris. He was a member of the French Communist Party during the mid-1930s and fought with the French Resistance during World War II. He wrote 43 books, mostly dealing with theology and ethics.

* Townsend Godsey, 89, a writer and photographer who documented the vanishing customs of Ozarks settlers, died Wednesday in Branson, Mo. He and his wife, Helen, completed more than 500 photographic essays and articles, 20 plays, three books and three films, mostly about Missouri. He had been a reporter for several newspapers and worked for the Associated Press and once co-owned newspapers in Missouri.

* Former Sen. Mamintal Tamano, 65, a leading advocate of autonomy for Filipino Muslims, died of a heart attack Wednesday in Manila, Philippines. He was a leading voice for nonviolence when Muslim rebels sought an independent state in the early 1970s. He advocated autonomy and incorporating Islamic law into the legal code in Muslim areas.
