The young, the old and the in-betweens

"MacGyver" returns in a made-for-TV form, "Saturday Nigh Live" attempts to finish the season in fine form, and "Red Shoe Diaries" presents the fine form of Audie England.

* "Bob Hope's Birthday Memories." (8 p.m.-10 p.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- No sense waiting until the last minute -- or in 15 days, when Hope truly turns 91. As is the case with most recent Hope specials, there's a lot of reliance upon clips from previous years to help fill the hours. Guests this time, live and in blast-from-the-past footage, are scheduled to include Angie Dickinson, Phyllis Diller and Betty White. NBC.

* "MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis." (8 p.m.-10 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- Richard Dean Anderson's MacGyver is a specialist at using his wits to get out of seemingly impossible jams -- and managed, somehow, to survive the cancellation of his own series. Here he is, back in what is the first of at least two "MacGyver" movies. This one's about Atlantis, and proves one thing: You can't keep a good man, or a good continent, down. ABC.

* "The Commish." (10 p.m.-11 p.m., WJZ, Channel 13) -- On this season-ending cliffhanger, the Iceman cometh -- playedeth by Brian Keith, who guest stars as a hit man called "the Iceman" with a contract on Tony (Michael Chiklis) and Rachel (Theresa Saldana). ABC.

* "Saturday Night Live." (11:30 p.m.-1 a.m., WMAR, Channel 2) -- The guest host is Heather Locklear, whose role on "Melrose Place" makes her one of the hottest draws among the young target audience this show must continue to attract to survive. The musical guest is Janet Jackson, another major attraction. A clever season finale will give the series a new lease on life; conversely, another dud could be a kiss of death. NBC.

* "Dennis the Menace." (8 p.m.-9:40 p.m., HBO, PSM) -- Even worse than the reviews.

* "Cliffhanger." (8 p.m.-9:55 p.m., SHO) -- Not as bad as the reviews.

* "Zalman King's Red Shoe Diaries." (midnight-12:30 a.m., SHO) -- Different episodes of "Red Shoe Diaries" work for different reasons, and for different people. This one, about a young wife who accepts work at a phone-sex operation, works for me.
