A 19-year-old Westminster man has been arrested and accused of breaking into the apartment of his former girlfriend by climbing in a window a day after he had moved out.
City police said they were called to the first block of Chase St. about 10 a.m. Wednesday and could see that a window had been forced open.
Christopher Earl McDermott of Fair Avenue was arrested as he walked out the rear door of the building, police said.
He was charged with breaking and entering, trespassing and malicious destruction of property.
A court commissioner released Mr. McDermott on his promise tappear in court.
Police said that Mr. McDermott and his girlfriend had separated and that he had moved out of her apartment Tuesday.
Trash can fire reported at Finksburg restaurant
About 10 customers and employees of a Finksburg restaurant were evacuated shortly before closing time early yesterday when a fire was discovered in a trash can in a rear room.
No one was injured in the fire at 12:48 a.m. at Cal Bittner's Encore restaurant in the 2800 block of Route 140, near Route 91.
The restaurant manager said that the fire was believed to be have been caused by a cigarette tossed into a trash can.
Firefighters from the Reese and Gamber stations in Carroll County and the Reisterstown and Glyndon departments in Baltimore County were called.
The manager, who asked not to be identified, said that the fire was discovered about the time of last call and that only a few customers were in the restaurant and bar.
Fire crews were out for almost two hours checking the building for any extension of the fire and clearing the restaurant of smoke, fire officials said.
The damage was minor, the manager said. The restaurant reopened yesterday.

* Westminster: A Baltimore County man, charged in a 1987 warrant with breaking into the Schaeffer Lumber Co., was arrested Wednesday in Ocean City and taken to Westminster. Donald C. Harris, 26, of Owings Mills was charged with breaking and entering of a storehouse, theft, malicious destruction of property and violation of probation, according to district court papers. Bail was set at $2,500. A resident of Doral Court reported that someone punctured the right rear tire of her car while it was parked near her house Wednesday. The damage was estimated at $75.

* Westminster: Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley anManchester responded to a building fire in the 100 block of Shaeffer Ave. at 12:53 p.m. Thursday. Units were out for one hour.
Westminster responded to a trash fire at Route 140 and Sullivan Road at 9:01 p.m. Wednesday. They were out for 15 minutes.
