9-year-old is treated after mauling by dog

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A 9-year-old Glen Burnie boy was bitten on his hands, arms and legs by a dog Tuesday as he fixed a bicycle at a friend's house on First Avenue, county police said yesterday.

Police would not identify the boy, who was treated at North Arundel Hospital and released.

The boy was attacked by a 20-pound, year-old chow belonging to the friend's grandmother. The woman, whom police would not identify, managed to pull the dog off the youngster.

Animal control workers quarantined the animal at his owner's address for the next 10 days and ordered her to take the dog to a veterinarian for a checkup, police said.

The woman told police her dog was given rabies shots in December 1993.
