* Minor leagues -- The Yankees had two six-run innings en route to a 21-3 victory over the Athletics.

Yankees' Ryan Webb, Grant Webb and Erik Vollmerhausen combined to strike out nine Athletics and yield only five hits.

Vollmerhausen was also a big gun on offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four runs scored. Grant Jennings was 3-for-3, scoring four runs, and Tony Calvano was 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored for the winners.

The Yankees also topped the Twins, 13-7. Calvano had two triples in two at-bats for the winners, and Jamison Mortenson scored three runs for the Yankees.

Jason Gorsuch, Brad Hartzell and Joey Horrigan combined to hold the Orioles to two hits, as their Reds won, 9-0.

The three struck out 16 batters in six innings, with Gorsuch striking out nine in his three innings of work. Gorsuch also helped his own cause, going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Horrigan was 2-for-3 with a triple, and Wesley Leyshon, 3-for-3, with an RBI and two runs scored for the Reds.

The Reds scored all their runs in the first three innings and went on to top the Phillies, 14-8. Gorsuch keyed a five-run Reds first with a three-run homer, and Steven Baker added a two-run shot in that inning.

Gorsuch was 3-for-3 with five RBIs, and Steven Moore was 3-for-3.

Justin Martin hit a three-run homer for the Phillies and was 2-for-3. Jason Gorman scored twice, and Corey Greene pitched two scoreless innings for the Phillies.

The Dodgers overcame a 3-0 deficit with an eight-run second and went on to beat the Twins with a 13-hit attack, 16-4.

Steven Tiffany, who had a two-run double in the big inning, was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The Dodgers' Rob Harmon and Kevin Rhodes were each 2-for-3 with two runs scored, with Harmon driving in two.

Mike Rhodes was 2-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in one. Scott Seal was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Dodgers pushed their league-leading record to 5-0 with a 6-5 squeaker over the Giants.

The Dodgers scored four runs in the home fourth to take a 5-4 lead, as John Mead tripled home a run, and Jake Mead stole home.

In the top of the sixth, the Pirates tied it on a triple by Johnny Jenkins and an RBI single by Rodney Farver.

Steven Tiffany, though, singled in John Mead with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.

Will McEvoy was 2-for-3 for the Pirates, and Jenkins was 3-for-3 with two triples and two RBIs.

The Orioles broke open a close game with three sixth-inning runs and went on to beat the Blue Jays, 7-2.

Jason Kay hit a two-run homer for the Orioles and added an RBI double in the big sixth. Chris O'Connell also doubled in a run in that inning.

Kay was the winning pitcher, relieving with the bases loaded and no outs in the first inning, and not yielding a run.

Jake Kantruss, pitching in his first game, pitched the final three innings in scoreless style for the winners.

Orioles catcher Matt Dougherty played well defensively, picking a runner off third base and tossing out another trying to bunt.

Jason Kay's two-run sixth inning home rungave the Orioles a 6-5, come-from-behind victory over the Giants. Shane Beccio supported with a 2-for-2 game and an RBI.

Matt Fogle's two-run homer in the home fifth had given the Giants a 4-3 lead.

L Fogle went 3-for-3 and Dave Centineo 2-for-3 for the Giants.

The Blue Jays jumped to an 8-1 lead after two innings en route to a 13-8 decision over the Phillies.

Starter Chris Moxley was the winner, striking out six in three innings and going 3-for-3 for the Jays.

Jonathan Stapleton and Ken Poist were 2-for-4 for the winners, with Poist driving in two runs.

Corey Greene was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Phillies, and Luke Weinreich added a 1-for-2 game with a double and RBI. Patrick Wolbert and Jason Gorman each scored two runs for the Phillies.

The Blue Jays and Twins played to a 11-11 tie. Charlton Hughes' grand slam highlighted a seven-run fourth for the Twins that put them ahead, 9-6.

Jason Hall was 3-for-3, and Matt White, 2-for-3 for the Twins; Hall and White scored three, and two runs, respectively.

David Gerting's two-run double keyed the Blue Jays' five-run fifth.

Gerting was 2-for-3, David Terec, 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Jonathan Stapleton, 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Jays.

The Pirates beat the Blue Jays, 29-8.

Johnny Jenkins was 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs for the Pirates, and Will McEvoy added a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored and four RBIs, one coming on a suicide squeeze bunt.

Joe Beadenkoph was 2-for-2, with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Pirates, and Ryan McCord, 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Jason Enders had three RBIs and scored three runs. He had a hit and two walks.

* Major leagues -- Zach Gayheart pitched a complete game, striking out 13 in six innings, and his Giants beat the Dodgers, 13-1. Andy Hopkins socked a three-run triple to key a six-run Giants sixth.

Steven Fultz was 3-for-4 for the Giants with two RBIs and three runs scored; Steven Trimble went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Reds broke open a close game with a six-run third inning and beat the Giants, 11-4.

Bill Perna, who was 3-for-3, with three runs scored, had a two-run triple in the third. He also pitched three scoreless innings to get the win.

Jason Duerr had two doubles in three at-bats, and Tim Curtis was 2-for-3 with a double and triple for the Reds.

Jeff Pringle singled in Nick Hozik with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Athletics edged the Giants, 6-5.

Ryan Yerdon's three-run fourth-inning home run had tied the game, 5-5 for the Athletics.

Steven Fultz and Zach Gayheart were each 2-for-3 for the Giants, and Chris Currence went 2-for-2.

The Dodgers broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the fifth inning and beat the Reds, 6-3. Ryan Kay's two-run homer and Paul Egolf's two-run double keyed the Dodgers' big inning.

The Dodgers' Sean Douglas went 3-for-3, with two doubles and an RBI.

The Dodgers' Gary Harrison struck out seven Reds in his three innings and was the winning pitcher.

The Dodgers rallied with two runs in the last inning to nip the Athletics, 5-4. Jared Egolf, who was 2-for-3, tied it at 4-4 with a single in the sixth, and Mike Abell scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk. Douglas was 2-for-3 for Dodgers.

Harrison and Egolf each pitched three innings and combine to strike out 17 batters. Egolf, who had nine strikeouts, was the winning pitcher.

Freedom Optimist lacrosse

* 12-14 boys -- White ran its first-place record to 5-0 with a 14-8 verdict over Orange.

Mike Rabinovitz and Kevin Roy each scored three goals for White, with Rabinovitz adding two assists. Chad Rabinovitz and Adam White chipped in with two goals apiece. Tim Chairs had a goal and assist and Pat Wynne, a goal.

Orange's Rob Onda paced all scorers with five goals and two assists. Drew Gibson added two goals for Orange and Travis Spampinato, one. Orange goalkeeper Nate Gant had 17 saves.

Lee Windsor scored three goals, as his Gold team downed Maroon, 8-3.

Pete Schaffer chipped in with a goal and two assists for Gold and Kacey Norris added a goal and assist. Gold's Eric Schaffer, Josh Phelps and Richard Ashley had one goal apiece.

Evan Cunningham had a goal and assist for Maroon; Chris Sraver and Ryan Heneman each added a score.

Tres Johnson's fifth goal of the game was the clincher, as his Grey team edged Black, 8-7. The game-winner came with a minute left in regulation.

Will Gunther supported with two goals, and Justin Felmey added one.

Mike Pearsall's four goals keyed Black's offense; Erik Fischer and Tom Freedman each added one.

* 9-11 boys -- Grey improved its first-place record to 5-0 by downing White, 16-2.

Chet Cairns and Mike Woke each scored three goals for Grey, while Eric Vizzini, Danny Stansbury and Owen Hubbs each added two. Grey's Tim Freedman, Denny Kosyjana, Ryan Wallace and Steve Robinson each scored one goal.

Matt Seivold and Bryan Robinson had White's scores.

Blue defeated Orange, 6-3. Kris Gooding had two goals and one assist for Blue, and Todd Farver, two goals.

Steve Miller and Jonathan Mulieri each added a goal for Blue.

Chad Parker, Justin Waagbo and Eric Wright had Orange's goals, and Mark Davis added an assist.

Gymnastics

Three Level VI Perna gymnasts ranked among the leaders in the Level VI-VII State championships in Williamsport.

Amanda Ebaugh (age 9-11) scored 9.20 on vaulting (sixth), 8.70 on parallel bars, 8.85 on balance beam, 8.55 on floor exercises and 35.30 all-around (ninth).

Lauren Prentice scored 9.125 on vault (seventh), 9.00 on bars (10th), 8.525 on beam, 8.35 on floor and 35.00 all-around.

Courtney Prentice (12-14) had 8.95 on vault (ninth), 8.10 on bars, 7.25 on beam, 8.55 on floor and 32.85 all-around.

Perna Gymnastics will conduct an open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its facility on 3100 Littlestown Road, north of Westminster.
