Harwood man missing car found at river

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Police were searching for a 67-year-old Harwood man yesterday after finding his car and cane near the Patuxent River in Davidsonville.

An officer with the Maryland Natural Resources Police noticed William E. Johnson's car about noon along Governor's Bridge Road near the Governor's Bridge, said Nancy Howard, a department spokeswoman.

Mr. Johnson's cane was discovered on the bridge, which crosses the Patuxent River.

Relatives told police that Mr. Johnson had left his house earlier for a trip to the store to buy coffee.

Anne Arundel County police joined Natural Resources officers in searching the area from the air and on foot, and divers were called in. The searchers failed to find Mr. Johnson, and the search was to resume this morning.
