SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds wasn't in the San Francisco Giants' lineup last night, and he wasn't happy about it.

As a reporter approached to ask the three-time MVP about his bruised right elbow, hit by a pitch Wednesday, he snapped, "Don't even try it, it's not good for your health," while waving a bat menacingly.

Translated, that meant Bonds is day-to-day. A CT scan taken yesterday was negative, but the injury is problematic for Bonds, who has a bone chip in the joint from a previous injury.

He was hit by New York Mets pitcher Eric Hillman right after Robby Thompson homered. An at-bat earlier, Bonds had hit one out.

"The word is that nothing is fractured," manager Dusty Baker said. "He's had a chip there for a while prior to this injury, so it will probably be a couple of days. But fortunately, it will only be a matter of days instead of a matter of weeks."
