Doris Denby Social studies teacher

Doris Denby, a retired social studies teacher, died Saturday at Union Memorial Hospital of complications after surgery. The Baltimore resident was 63.

She retired in 1982 from the William H. Lemmel Junior High School after 28 years of teaching in the Baltimore public school system.

She also taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church.

She was born Doris Tyson in Ansonville, N.C., and came to Baltimore as a child. She graduated with honors from Douglass High School and Morgan State University and did graduate work at Columbia University. Her husband, Dunbar F. Denby, is a retired Postal Service accountant. A Mass of Christian burial was to be offered at 11:30 a.m. today at Blessed Sacrament Church, 4103 Old York Road, Baltimore.

Other survivors include a daughter, Michele Denby of Houston; her father, Lewis A. Tyson; and seven brothers, Al, Edward, Mike, Howard, Theodore, Paul and Clarence Tyson, all of Baltimore.
