FIRE

* Mount Airy: Firefighters from the Mount Airy station assisted Howard County at a house fire in the 1700 block of Michaels Road at 3:37 p.m. yesterday. Engines remained at the fire at least two hours, according to an emergency operations dispatcher. An engine from Winfield was transferred to Mount Airy to cover that area in case of an emergency.

Mount Airy responded to a van fire on Route 144 at 8:42 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 18 minutes.

* Taylorsville: Winfield responded to a brush fire in the 3500 block of Ridge Road at 6:37 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 37 minutes.

* Winfield: Winfield and Mount Airy were dispatched for a reported fire on West Old Liberty Road at 2:27 p.m. Sunday, but the call was canceled after only one minute.
