"Kevin possesses all of the academic qualities that spell success in higher learning," wrote Zemke.
Through the school's Media Tutoring Program, Bonk has served as a tutor. Accepted by the engineering schools at Maryland and Virginia Tech, Bonk takes mostly advanced placement and gifted and talented courses.
Tony Costanzo

Despite playing three sports, Costanzo finds time to tutor fellow students one hour a day, two times a week.
"Rarely have I had the opportunity to coach a student/athlete who combines the physical, mental and social skills necessary to become a well-rounded person," wrote Arundel athletic director and baseball coach Bernie Walter.
"The words I would use to best describe Tony are intelligent, unselfish, hard working, achievement oriented, loyal and honest."
Costanzo is the Wildcats' starting left fielder and was an important member of last year's state 4A champion.

Snapshot: Ranked No. 3 in a class of 300, Hoppa is a National Merit Commended Scholar, Maryland State Distinguished Scholar semi-finalist, has been on the Principal's Honor Roll every marking period since 9th grade and has made the State's Minds in Motion list for student athletes eight times.
Hoppa has been nominated for a Jefferson Scholarship at the University of Virginia, and is eligible for annual Presidential Scholarship Awards of $7,500 and $5,000 to Loyola College and Muhlenberg College, respectively.
"Eric was named a team captain of our basketball team this year despite being a nonstarter," wrote assistant athletic director Tim McMullen.
"He is so highly respected by his peers, coaches and teachers that coach Ken Kazmarek made such an interesting decision."

A frequent member of the St. Mary's Honor Roll, Kiefer also earned an academic scholarship to Johns Hopkins and was a Tandy Technology Scholar.
"Mark is a young man of impeccable character and empathy for others, is an individual who gives 100 percent effort in academic situations," wrote principal Sister Phyllis McNally.
Football coach Brad Best wrote: "The quality that I feel puts Mark above the rest is his willingness to help others."
David LaMore

LaMore maintained a 4.0 GPA his first three years at the Mount and 3.9 his senior year while taking honor classes such including, AP English, government, biology and trig/analysis and physics.
A member of the Gaels' National Prep Champion wrestling squad, LaMore "is a genuine sort with an integrity rarely found in teens," wrote counselor Barry J. Fitzpatrick.

Lentz has received presidential and other academic scholarships Drexel, Loyola, UMBC and Virginia Tech.
The Knights' soccer team presented Lentz with its' Pride Award, which goes to the player who has done the most to help the team in the eyes of his peers.
"I have coached high school soccer for 27 years and I sincerely believe that Matt may be the finest young man I have ever coached," wrote recently retired Knights coach Steve Malone.

Ranked No. 38 out of a class of 292, Ryan has excelled in various AP and honors courses such as, AP calculus and U.S. History. His leadership qualities made him a team captain in all three sports his senior year and he was named Most Valuable Player in baseball his junior year and MVP in basketball this past season.
"Sean epitomizes what is meant by student athlete," wrote baseball coach Mark Stover. "Sean has the full respect of students, teachers, coaches and administrators because of his conscientious and positive attitude in the classroom."

Snapshot: This very busy young man was voted "Most Likely to Succeed, Best Dressed, and the Friendliest" by his peers and was named Homecoming King. Singleton is in the Who's Who Among American High School Students and a FBLA Regional Champion in Business Calculations.
A Maryland State High jump champion last year, Singleton has also received a commendation from National Achievement Scholarship Program for Outstanding Negro Students. He has found time to volunteer at a homeless shelter, a therapeutic recreation center for the mentally challenged and the Special Olympics.
"Todd is a very likable person with excellent character," wrote honors chemistry teacher Michael Cashen. "He exhibits a wide range of talents."
Matt Smear

Snapshot: Smear was a three-year varsity football player named team captain his senior year and two-year varsity starter in wrestling while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. The 4.18 is based on the weighted scale and indicates honors and AP courses.
"Matt is one of those few individuals who take great pride in doing the best he can, all of the time, in everything he attempts," wrote football coach Roy Brown.
Wrestling coach Dave Gehrdes echoed Brown's sentiments and neighbor Susan Reimer wrote of his relationship with his younger brother Chris, who is autistic (does not speak).
"His [Chris'] eyes sparkle when he sees Matt, the child who has every gift that Chris does not," wrote Reimer. "And Matt's eyes sparkle too, for the only playmate big enough to handle him."
Smear will major in biology and neuroscience at Duke in hopes of helping his brother one day.

Winegrad is ranked 12th in his class of 360 taking advanced placement courses specializing in algebra III and linear algebra.
"David is a very good student and was very successful in those two math courses," wrote math teacher and athletic director Fred Stauffer. "He demonstrated an insight into the nature of math and showed an indepth understanding of the concepts."

Snapshot: Ranked in the top 10 percent of her class, Burke is captain in all three sports she plays indicating outstanding leadership qualities.
'Miss Burke is a highly organized and responsible person," wrote administrator Ronald E. Alberico. "Fair play, honesty and integrity are qualities that are ingrained in Christine's personality."
It's those qualities that should enable her "to perform at a high level" according to Stephen Barry, special assistant to the superintendent.
Robert C. Lieb, CDR of the U.S. Naval Academy, calls Christine "one of the best and brightest" young people he has come in contact.
Mindy Caplan
Old Mill

Snapshot: Despite her hectic school schedule that includes playing two sports, Caplan finds time to be a volunteer with handicapped children and adults, at the middle school office and at a physical therapy office.
She also is a medical research assistant at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and has been named a Maryland Distinguished Scholar, Maryland National Guard Distinguished and has received the state public schools' Minds In Motion award several times.
Caplan, who has been accepted to a host of universities including Duke, Hopkins and Maryland, is a Governor's Physical Fitness Award winner and an Old Mill Most Superfit.
Two years ago, Caplan tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during a basketball game and thought her sports career was over. She battled back with endless hours of physical therapy and now volunteers in the physical therapy office where she was once a patient.
Elizabeth Duncan

Snapshot: A regular on the Headmasters' List, Duncan was one of 25 students selected from several hundred applicants to be an intern at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center last summer where she contributed to a study on volcanoes which will be published this fall.
"A few in her class may have loftier GPA and SATs, but no one has more AP courses and no student in school can rival the breadth of her academic, athletic and co-curricular commitments," wrote Norwood Johnston II, director of college counseling.
Duncan exudes the same enthusiasm on the athletic field and according to her field hockey coach, Anne Eisinger, her peers voted her a special award.
"The girls voted Liz the Players' Award which epitomizes the qualities of an exceptional athlete: leadership, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship," wrote Eisinger.
Colleen Gately

"Colleen puts a tremendous amount of energy into everything she does and the results show her effort," wrote Patricia Latham, math teacher.
"She has accepted the challenge of continuing at our highest level of math by taking BC calculus this year."
Gately also challenges herself on the field where "her skill and leadership helped us win the state championship for the second year in a row," said field hockey coach Lil Shelton.
Kathryn Kemerer

Snapshot: Kemerer is the only repeater from last year's team and hasn't slipped a notch. Ranked 11th in her class of 300 per the county's new weighted scale, Kemerer is a Maryland Distinguished Scholar semi-finalist and was named to the All State Girls' Basketball Academic Team.
A captain in all three sports she plays, Kemerer is the only four-year varsity girls lacrosse player in school history.
"From her record it is easy to see that she leads by example," wrote Broadneck faculty member Donald J. Treacy.
Assistant athletic director and advanced placement history teacher Tim McMullen said: "Katy has made Broadneck a better high school."

Snapshot: Lenzi has missed only a half-day of school in four years. Her perfect attendance record bares an asterisk because she left a half-day to visit Messiah College in February of this year.
Her love of school has resulted in her consistent spot on the Honor Roll, being named to the Who's Who Among American High School Students and as an honoree in the Class of '94 Tomorrow's Leaders. Lenzi also won the Annapolis Children's Foundation AIDS/HIV essay contest.
Active in her church and community, Rachel also wrote an outstanding essay on teen-age drinking. She wrote: "Most teen-agers think that they're invincible, when, in truth, anything can happen to anyone at any time.
"Some call it relaxation, a release of tensions built up inside, but I call it just plain stupid."
Her achievements as a student athlete are a reflection of her attitude, summed up by Art Department chairperson Lawrence V. Lynch Jr.: "Her strengths are perseverance, self-motivation and strong interest in succeeding."

She is gifted as a three-sport standout and team captain on every team. And her talents don't stop in the classroom and on the athletic field.
Mahoney also has participated in the school's popular Rock 'n' Roll Revival for three years.
"Mary Jo is everything you want a student to be," wrote Spanish teacher Flora A. Muller.
"She works tirelessly at everything she does."
Veteran field hockey coach Lil Shelton pointed to Mahoney's work ethic saying, "her drive and determination reflect values that are important on a team and for a lifetime."

Her classmates voted her "Most Athletic" and could have also made it "Most Likely to Succeed." She is a captain and leading scorer on each of her three teams.
"Cristi is never satisfied and puts an unbelievable amount of pressure on herself to achieve the highest goals possible," wrote girls basketball coach Dave Griffith.
Math teacher and girls lacrosse coach Susan Chittim cited Samaras' desire to be the best in everything she does. "The beaming smile when the grade is what she hoped for, the steely eyes when she is listening intently. This is the part of Cristi I will remember long after the cheers from the crowd are gone."
