Baysox-Phillies washed out

THE BALTIMORE SUN

WILMINGTON, Del. -- The Bowie Baysox were expecting their largest home crowd of the season last night at Judy Johnson Field, but rain dampened the party.

After several hard showers hit the area, the Baysox's Eastern League game against the Reading Phillies was postponed. It has been rescheduled as part of a twi-night doubleheader tonight at 6.

"There was just too much [standing] water," said Bowie general manager Keith Lupton. "The field was not that bad, but the sidelines and behind the plate were unsafe."

Advance sales for a three-game weekend series between the affiliates of the Orioles and the Philadelphia Phillies are averaging nearly 2,000 a game.
