Man sought in attempted kidnapping

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Westminster police are searching for the driver of a late-model white Chevrolet van who attempted to pull a 20-year-old woman into his vehicle Saturday night.

Investigators said the woman, a resident of The Greens of Westminster, was walking on Windsor Drive at about 11:36 p.m. a block from her home, when a van with tinted windows stopped near her. The driver asked her for directions.

In an apparent attempt to lure the woman closer to the van, the driver mumbled something the woman could not understand and she approached the vehicle, police said.

As she approached, the driver leaned out the window, grabbed the woman and attempted to force her into the van, police said.

She broke free and escaped. She was not injured, police said.

Police described the assailant as a black man, 35 to 40 years old. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap.

The victim told police that she saw a three-inch scar on the man's left cheek.

Yesterday, officers were canvassing The Greens in search of residents who might have seen the attempted abduction and for information about the van or its driver.

Anyone with such information should call the Westminster Police Department at 848-4646 or 857-TIPS.
