Adult bookstore to stay shut until it gets permits

THE BALTIMORE SUN

An Anne Arundel Circuit judge yesterday ordered a Severna Park adult book and video store to remain closed until it gets the necessary county permits.

Judge Eugene M. Lerner's injunction closing the Ritchie News and Video in the 400 block of Ritchie Highway fulfills a request by county lawyers, who said that the store had been operating without a certificate of occupancy since opening in February, and that it is located in a commercial district where such businesses are prohibited.

William E. Seekford, lawyer for Ritchie News, said yesterday that the store will make several changes in hopes that county officials will no longer classify it as an adult book and video store.

The store will reapply for a certificate of occupancy permit after the changes are complete, he said. If that permit is denied, the store's owners will file suit in Anne Arundel Circuit Court for a court order to reopen.
