POLICE

* Sykesville: An officer of American Legion Post No. 223 in the 7300 block of Slacks Road told state police that someone broke into the building between 11:35 p.m Wednesday and 8:20 a.m. Thursday and forced open several vending machines, stealing about $900 in coins. The damage to the building and the machines is estimated at $5,000.

FIRE

* Sykesville: Firefighters from the Sykesville station transferred to the Liberty Road station of Baltimore County at 7:33 p.m. Thursday. The Baltimore County firefighters were battling a building fire in the Woodstock area. Carroll units remained out for 79 minutes.
