Driver Pierce sweeps Colonial Trot

THE BALTIMORE SUN

FORT WASHINGTON -- -- Driver Ron Pierce guided highly regarded Bosphorus and Keystone Graham to victory, sweeping both divisions of the $173,156 Colonial Trot for 3-year-old colts last night at Rosecroft Raceway.

Bosphorus led the entire mile and out-stepped 1-to-2 favorite Mr Lavec to win by 1 1/2 lengths.

Keystone Graham made his 1994 debut a success, capturing the first division in 2:00.3.

Pierce led the son of Baltic Speed out of the gate quickly to find a spot on the rail in third before brushing to the top at the half-mile mark and cruising to victory by 2 1/4 lengths over 8-to-5 favorite Easter West.

Many of these top-grade colts will race along harness racing's Grand Circuit this season, with the $1.2 Hambletonian Trot at the Meadowlands in August as their major goal.
