Overlea's Cowan, Merson combine to pitch no-hitter

K.C. Cowan and Frank Merson combined on a no-hitter as Overlea (6-2) defeated Chesapeake-BC, 9-0, in baseball action yesterday.

Cowan pitched the first inning and Merson came on in the second and went the rest of the way. Merson, a andwich junior, walked two and struck out two. Joel Brown had three RBIs for Overlea.

* Southern-AA 7, Broadneck 6: Corey Contee drove in two runs, one on a home run, as visiting Southern-AA (4-4) defeated No. 8 Broadneck (6-3). The Bulldogs opened up a 7-1 lead after 5 1/2 innings.

Softball

* Glen Burnie 21, Meade 0: Samantha Miller, a junior pitcher, hurled a no-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks to lead host Glen Burnie (6-3).

She went 2-for-2, with a double and a triple. This was her second no-hitter of the season.
