Arnold man hurt in fight to keep bike

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A 34-year-old Arnold man lost two teeth and suffered a cut ear Monday afternoon when another man tried to steal his Huffy mountain bike, county police said.

Armand Beard told police he had stopped to rest at the intersection of Bellarive Drive and College Parkway about 2:20 p.m., and had leaned his bike against a brick sign.

A man came up behind Mr. Beard, snatched the bike and started running along Bellarive Drive, police said.

Mr. Beard grabbed the man from behind and fought to get his bike back, police said.

The thief hit Mr. Beard, knocking out his front teeth and cutting his ear, police said. Mr. Beard told police he blacked out for a few seconds. The suspect fled without taking the bike.

A passer-by found Mr. Beard lying in the street. Police said Mr. Beard refused medical treatment.
