Woman is killed in apartment fire

BALTIMORE -- An 18-year-old woman died early today when fire broke out in the bedroom of her first-floor apartment in the 5600 block of McClean Boulevard in the city's northeast section.

Reported at 1:53 a.m., the fire was confined to the bedroom at 5610 Apt. B McClean Boulevard and declared under control in less than 15 minutes, but not before it claimed the life of the woman whose identity was withheld pending notification of relatives.

Firefighters found the woman lying on her bedroom floor next to a burning mattress.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
