Loch Raven nears softball record

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Loch Raven High came within four runs of an area record for runs scored by one softball team, posting a 52-1 victory over host Milford Mill yesterday.

In 1981 Arundel scored 55 runs in a win over Southern-AA (55-18). The national record is 88.

Yesterday's game was stopped after five innings after the 15-run mercy rule was enforced.

"It's not that you walk away feeling bad but it's a no-win situation," said Loch Raven coach Don Shaneor.

"I've known known [Milford Mill coach] Charlene [Diamond] for many, many years, and I know she wants her kids to stay on the field and compete, and you have to admire her for that. It's not something we're proud of. There was no bad sportsmanship from either team. You have to admire her kids for staying in there the five innings they had to play."
