Two women have filed separate civil suits accusing a gynecologist of making improper sexual advances during examinations.

The suits accuse Dr. Mohammad Farzanfar, who has offices in Baltimore and Anne Arundel County, of exploiting his "position of power and trust" over the two patients to gain sexual satisfaction.

In one suit, a Severna Park woman says the doctor caused her to become aroused -- "to her embarrassment and shame" -- during an April 18, 1991, examination. The woman says the doctor also made comments about her husband's sex habits.

In the second suit, a Baltimore woman says the doctor attempted to arouse her during a June 1992 examination by breathing heavily on her neck and repeatedly kissing her.

Each woman is demanding $3 million in damages. Their names are being withheld under The Sun's policy of not identifying alleged victims of sexual abuse.

In the suits, the women accuse the doctor of negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Their lawyer, Joanne L. Suder, says the women have received mental health treatment to deal with what they consider acts of betrayal from a trusted physician.

Robert E. Donadio, a lawyer for Dr. Farzanfar, said his client was exonerated of similar accusations in an opinion recently issued by a state administrative law court judge.

In that case, the judge recommended a complaint before the state Board of Physician Quality Assurance be dismissed

"This man has gone through hell, and you can see the name of the game is money," said Mr. Donadio, noting that Dr. Farzanfar has been practicing for nearly 30 years in Baltimore and sees about 5,000 patients a year.
