Michael L. Long Court clerk, interpreter


Michael L. Long, a court clerk and interpreter, died Thursday of pneumonia at St. Joseph Hospital. He was 31.

The Homeland resident had worked for four years at the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization in Arlington, Va. Previously, Mr. Long had been a language teacher at the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.

A native of Baltimore, he was a graduate of Calvert Hall College and Towson State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in Spanish in 1986. He also was a graduate of the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, Calif.

Mr. Long enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his parents, William A. and Regina E. Long of Homeland; two brothers, Thomas P. Long of Ione, Calif., and Stephen J. Long of Baltimore; and a sister, Carol A. Long of Baltimore.

A Mass of Christian burial was to be offered at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 5502 York Road in Govans.

The family suggested memorial contributions to AIDS Interfaith Residential Services, 5000 York Road, Baltimore, 21212.
