The Retrievers (7-3) won their second straight, and topped their win total of last season.
UMBC expanded its one-goal halftime lead by scoring the first five goals of the third quarter.
Sam Walker started the spurt with an unassisted goal at 3:14, and senior defenseman Richard Fritz scored his first collegiate goal at 5:12. Then Stewart Walker sandwiched a pair of scores around a Matt Shearer goal to complete the five-goal outburst.
