25 Years Ago (Week of March 30-April 5, 1969):

* A group of Elkridge residents petitioned the U.S. Post Office Department, requesting that a branch of the Baltimore Post Office be established in their community to replace an existing contract postal station on Old Washington Road.

* A bill was introduced in the County Council to create a Human Relations Commission which would work toward "securing the furnishing of equal services to all residents . . . without regard to sex, race, color, creed, national origin or ancestry."

50 Years Ago (Week of April 2-8, 1944):

* Emmit Marion Hardman, 58, former owner of Hardman's Tourist Home, died of a heart attack at St. Agnes Hospital. Funeral services were held at his home, and burial was at St. John's Cemetery in Ellicott City.
