Fire destroys large bank barn near Keymar

THE BALTIMORE SUN

TC A large wooden barn and attached milking parlor were destroyed by fire yesterday in the 10800 block of Haughs Church Road, Frederick County, two miles from Keymar.

Chief deputy state fire marshal Bob Thomas said the 60-by-40-foot bank barn contained hay and farm equipment when the blaze was discovered by neighbors about 11 a.m. The loss of the barn and its contents was estimated at $275,000.

Mr. Thomas said the owners, Thomas Eyler and his wife, Sandra, were away from the farm at the time.

Fifty-five firefighters from Taneytown, Union Bridge, Rocky Ridge, New Market, Graceham, Lewistown, Emmitsburg and Thurmont battled the blaze for more than an hour before bringing it under control. The cause is under investigation.

Firefighters said the barn was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived and it eventually burned to the ground. No one was injured.
