An Anne Arundel County teacher indicted for allegedly mistreating a Glen Burnie special education student withdrew yesterday her request for a gag order to prohibit lawyers and witnesses from discussing the case and to seal the court record.

Roland Walker, attorney for Susan Hope Pagano, said he asked Circuit Judge Robert H. Heller Jr. to defer the hearing he had requested for today because publicity about the case has died down and the order is no longer necessary.

But Mr. Walker said he may ask again for a hearing if the case generates large amounts of publicity before trial.

Ms. Pagano was indicted by a county grand jury March 28 for misconduct in office and obstruction of justice based on an incident Dec. 10, 1993, at the Ruth Parker Eason School in Millersville.

State's Attorney Frank R. Weathersbee said the indictment stems from allegations that Ms. Pagano put a 16-year-old special education student in a storage closet and failed to report resulting injuries to the girl.

No trial date has been set.
