A 27-year-old Baltimore County man said that he and two accomplices armed with a sawed-off shotgun called off plans to rob a Fallston savings and loan last fall because "someone could get hurt."

Christopher Dennis Myles of the 8300 block of Church Lane in Randallstown pleaded guilty in Circuit Court Wednesday to conspiracy to rob the Atlantic Federal Savings and Loan in the Fallston Mall and will be sentenced April 27.

According to the plea agreement, prosecutor Diane Brooks, an assistant state's attorney, will recommend that Myles serve six years in prison with the remainder of his sentence suspended.

When he is sentenced, Myles could receive a prison term of 25 years on the conspiracy and gun charges and five years for possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

In the statement of facts presented by Miss Brooks, Myles and two other men planned the robbery, drove to the Fallston Mall and walked back and forth in front of the savings and loan several times.

One of the men entered the savings and loan and asked about money market accounts, Miss Brooks said.

She said they had chosen that branch office because there was no bullet-proof glass separating tellers from customers.

Myles later told state police that the three men changed their minds after about 20 minutes of deliberations outside the savings and loan. They then got into Myles' Oldsmobile and drove away.

Meanwhile, Miss Brooks said, tellers at Atlantic Federal had become suspicious.

The tellers alerted state police who stopped the car near the savings and loan on U.S. 1 with three occupants matching descriptions given by the employees. Troopers spotted a sawed-off shotgun on the floor of the car.

The three men were arrested and, after a more thorough search of the car, state police found 10 small bags of marijuana.

Judge Stephen M. Waldron ordered a pre-sentence investigation for Myles.

Maurice Clay Stewart, 30, of the 5200 block of Darien Road in the Cedonia area of Baltimore, one of the men arrested with Myles, also was in Circuit Court Wednesday morning, but decided to reject the prosecutor's plea arrangement. He will stand trial, most likely in May or June.

The third man charged is Louis Anthony Carter, 35, of the 4100 block of W. Forest Park Ave. in Baltimore. His trial was postponed Tuesday because no jury was available. It will be rescheduled.
