* Natalie Michele Chavis, 26, the eldest daughter of the Rev. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr., executive director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, died yesterday at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C. of liver disease, the NAACP said. Services for Ms. Chavis, who lived in Oxford, N.C., will be held Thursday in Oxford.

* Ed Zern, 83, an author, illustrator and columnist for Field & Stream magazine, died Friday of Parkinson's disease in Stamford, Conn. The Scarsdale, N.Y., resident was best known for "Exit Laughing," his column in Field & Stream. His books included "To Hell With Fishing," "To Hell With Hunting," "How to Tell Fish From Fisherman" and "Are Fisherman People?" He also wrote for Audubon and Sports Illustrated magazines.

* Nizaemon Kataoka, 90, Japan's oldest active Kabuki actor, died Saturday in Tokyo. He was declared a living national treasure in 1972 by Japan's Cultural Affairs Agency.
