1-alarm fire damages barn

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A barn in the Clarksville area was damaged in a Thursday afternoon fire that spread to about 1 acre of surrounding brush before firefighters brought it under control.

The blaze, in the 12100 block of Hall Shop Road about one half-mile south of Route 32, caused an estimated $30,000 in damage, said county Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Donald Howell.

Investigators haven't determined the cause.

No injuries were reported and no animals were in the barn, which housed garden supplies, a tractor and other items, Chief Howell said.

About 30 firefighters and eight pieces of equipment responded from four fire stations to the single-alarm blaze, which was called in at 3:11 p.m. and brought under control at 3:36 p.m., he said.

The heat from the fire was so intense that it cracked windows at a nearby residence, Chief Howell said.
