Saints defeat Thunder, win playoff berth

THE BALTIMORE SUN

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- When the Baltimore Thunder players look back on the 1994 Major Indoor Lacrosse League season, it won't be difficult to figure out why the team finished in last place.

The Thunder played very little defense all season and it showed in last night's season finale against the New York Saints at the Nassau Coliseum. The Thunder lost, 15-11, before 7,529 fans.

"We had a difficult time clearing the ball and our defense had no cohesion," said Thunder coach Skip Lichtfuss. "Hey, the Saints deserve some credit. They made the most of their scoring opportunities."

The final spot in the MILL playoffs was on the line. The Saints make it with a 2-6 record. The Thunder finishes 1-7.

The Saints outscored the Thunder 7-2 in the final period to erase a 9-8 deficit. They opened the final period with four goals in the first 5:08.

The rush of goals offset a first-half offensive show by the Thunder's Butch Marino, who matched his season-high of four goals.
