City police investigating two fatal shootings

THE BALTIMORE SUN

City police were investigating two unrelated fatal shootings within minutes of each other in separate sections today and for a time police employed the use of a State Police helicopter with an infra-red tracking-device to locate a suspect in one of the slayings.

No arrest was made in either slaying and no details were available.

At 4:24 a.m., Northeastern District police responding to a report of a shooting in the 3100 block of Mareco Ave. found the body of a man in a second-floor apartment. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 4:26 a.m., Northwestern District police entered a home in the 2600 block of Gatehouse Drive near Baltimore County and found the body of a woman who had been shot.

The woman's name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

Police said a suspect in the woman's killing was seen running toward a wooded area off Purnell Drive.

A State Police helicopter hovered in an effort to locate the suspect.
