S.C. State advances to semis

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The South Carolina State Bulldogs, who lost five of their last seven regular-season games, survived a frantic late rally by Bethune-Cookman to win their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference quarterfinal matchup, 73-69, at Morgan State's Hill Field House last night.

The Bulldogs (15-12) will now play Morgan State, who upset top-seeded Coppin State, 61-60.

S.C. State appeared to have it wrapped up, leading 61-46 with just under six minutes left. But the Wildcats (9-18) used a three-pointer and layup off a steal by Latroy Strong to mount their comeback.

Bethune-Cookman managed to pull within a basket, 69-67, with 50 seconds remaining, but South Carolina State's Jay Joyner answered with a pair of foul shots.
