Arbutus man is charged with sexual assault

An Arbutus man has been arrested and charged with sex offenses for allegedly attacking a 23-year-old Elkridge woman while she slept in her bedroom Saturday morning.

The victim said that she and some friends had gone out the previous night and had returned to her home.

Police said the suspect, who had met the victim through mutual friends a few hours earlier, entered the victim's bedroom at 6 a.m. and woke her while kissing and fondling her. The woman screamed and resisted the attack, freed herself and called police.

William Russell Landis, 26, of the 1000 block of Downton Road, was arrested and charged with second- and fourth-degree sex offenses, assault with intent to rape and assault and battery. He was being held on $100,000 bond.

* Elkridge: A 35-year-old Elkridge man was arrested and charged with indecent exposure after witnesses told police he exposed himself while standing with his pants down to his knees in front of neighbors in the 5900 block of Setter Driver on Sunday.

* Ellicott City: A 53-year-old Ellicott City man was arrested on lewdness charges after the man allegedly solicited sex from a plainclothes Howard County police officer in a bathroom at Chatham Mall in the 9200 block of Route 40 Saturday afternoon.

* Elkridge: 6600 block of Ducketts Lane: A car stereo, CD and radar detector were stolen after someone broke a passenger side window of a red Toyota Corolla Thursday or Friday. The stolen property was valued at more than $600.
