DOVER, Del. -- Stephen Stewart scored 23 points and Michael Thomas 17 to lead Coppin State (22-7, 16-0) past Delaware State, 93-62, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game yesterday.
The Eagles extended their winning streak to 16 to equal Canisius and the College of Charleston as the longest in the nation. Coppin finished undefeated in the MEAC for the second straight year with its 35th consecutive conference win.
Coppin limited its host to one basket in the opening eight minutes as it took a 20-3 lead.
Hijr Sabree led the Hornets (8-18, 5-11) with 14 points and Phil Anderson added 12. Coppin, the top seed in this week's MEAC tournament, will face the winner of the Morgan State-Florida A&M; play-in game in the quarterfinals, Friday at 1:30 at Morgan State.
