Two of the Canadian Football League's best quarterbacks will help introduce three-down football to Baltimore this summer.
The CFL Colts will play a June 29 preseason game against Matt Dunigan and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Memorial Stadium.
On July 16, in the second week of the regular season, they'll face Doug Flutie and the Calgary Stampeders in their home opener.
Dunigan took the Blue Bombers to the Grey Cup last season, and Flutie won it two years ago.
The CFL schedule was approved yesterday at league meetings in Sacramento, Calif., and Baltimore's was heavily flavored with Saturday dates (11). The Colts, who mark their debut into the league on July 7 against the Toronto Argonauts in SkyDome, will have five weeknight games and two Sunday games.
One potential conflict with the Orioles was avoided by moving theColts' Aug. 11 home game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to Wednesday night, Aug. 10. The Orioles play the Boston Red Sox at Camden Yards on Aug. 11.
The expansion Colts will play a home-and-away series against Eastern Division opponents Shreveport, Toronto, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Hamilton.
They'll also play home-and-away against two Western Division teams -- Las Vegas and Sacramento. They play other Western opponents once.
Baltimore's first-ever game in the CFL is a June 22 preseason game at Shreveport, one of three expansion teams coming into the league in 1994.
The CFL governors also approved a six-team, wild-card playoff format for the 1994 season. Three teams make the playoffs from both the Eastern and Western divisions.
