Phoenix Racing -- Announced that Jeff Purvis will take over the Chevrolet Lumina NASCAR ride of his late friend, Neil Bonnett. Purvis has won 350 races in 20 years, but his only Winston Cup experience is eight 1993 starts.

Los Angeles Clippers -- Announced that they will play one preseason and six regular-season home games per season at The Pond in Anaheim, Calif., beginning next season.


Naismith Awards National Advisory Board -- Named following men's finalists for BAN-Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year: Purdue's Glenn Robinson, Duke's Grant Hill, California's Jason Kidd, Connecticut's Donyell Marshall and North Carolina's Eric Montross. Figure skating U.S. Figure Skating Association -- Moved Tonya Harding's disciplinary hearing from March 9 to March 10, rejecting Harding's attorneys' request for an indefinite delay that would enable her to compete at the world championships March 22-27.


CFL Colts -- Named Mike Gathagan public relations director and J. Narcise director of special projects.

Minnesota Vikings -- Announced that linebackers coach Richard Solomon will switch to defensive backs. Hired Trent Walters as outside linebackers coach.

New York Giants -- Signed C Brian Williams to a contract reportedly worth $4.4 million over the next three years.

Seattle Seahawks -- Elected not to match a four-year, $10 million offer sheet tendered by the Chicago Bears to transition free-agent OT Andy Heck.

Charlotte Rage (AFL) -- Named Galen Hall coach.


PGA -- Announced that commissioner Deane Beman will step down in December 1995. Announced that the 23-year-old Honda Classic will play at a course under development near Coral Springs, Fla., for 25 straight years starting in 1996.


NHL -- Named Montreal Canadiens G Patrick Roy Player of the Month.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim -- Assigned LW Lonnie Loach to IHL San Diego.

Chicago Blackhawks -- Recalled D Ivan Droppa from IHL Indianapolis.

Hartford Whalers -- Added D Ted Crowley and C Robert Petrovicky to the roster.

St. Louis Blues -- Announced that C Greg Parks has accepted an invitation to join the team in training camp next fall.
