Former Taneytown man charged with sex abuse

A former Taneytown man, now living in Tennessee, has been charged with sexually abusing three girls here between 1960 and 1970.

Ronnie Lane Robertson, 48, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., is accused in a three-count indictment of child sexual abuse. The children were between the ages of 1 and 13 at the time of the alleged abuse.

Mr. Robertson is the brother of Roy Monroe Robertson, who also faces child sexual abuse charges.

He is being held in the Carroll County Detention Center in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Roy Robertson claims that the abuse charges are an attempt to compel him to answer questions about the Feb. 18, 1993, fatal shooting of a friend, William C. Prodoehl of Westminster.

The accusations against Ronnie Robertson surfaced during the investigation of Roy Robertson, said Carroll County State's Attorney Thomas E. Hickman.

According to the indictment against Ronnie Robertson, child abuse investigators were unable to specify the dates and locations of the alleged abuse because of the young ages of the victims and continuing nature of the offenses.

The three alleged victims lived in the Taneytown area at the time of the alleged abuse, Mr. Hickman said.

Roy Monroe Robertson has been in the Carroll County Detention Center since his arrest Dec. 31 on child sex abuse charges.

He is charged with molesting two 6-year-old girls. Two adults also have accused Roy Robertson of molesting them between 1960 and 1971, and one adult claimed that she was molested in the 1980s.

Roy Robertson has said he is being held on child-abuse charges because he is a suspect in Mr. Prodoehl's slaying.

Gina Maria Catterton Prodoehl, the victim's wife, and Roy Robertson, who lived with the couple, reported finding Mr. Prodoehl's body beside the Monocacy River near Harney after ** he failed to return from a fishing trip.
